Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens, which has been transformed from an old limestone quarry, is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the southeast! Here a number of pathways, bridges and overlooks give you awesome views of the lush terraced gardens, cascading waterfalls and tranquil koi ponds that surround this 20-acre Florida gem. The quarry walls are now lined with concrete and rock planters, filled with hundreds of species of flowers and plants. And there’s plenty of birds, butterflies, turtles, frogs, and fish to be seen here as well. Located in Williston, this is easily one of the most peaceful places in the Sunshine State!
Cedar lakes woods and gardens established in 2014 by Dr. Ray Webber, our 20-acre garden was transformed from an abandoned limestone quarry into a captivating water environment, now teeming with diverse wildlife—from birds and pollinators to amphibians, turtles, and occasional roving deer. Surrounding the gardens, 64 acres of protected woodlands remain untouched, preserving the natural landscape. The gardens stand as a testament to the potential of reclaiming former mining sites into thriving ecosystems.

Cedar lakes woods and gardens was built on a 110 year old abandoned lime rock quarry that was originally dugout to create Hwy 27. The hand and back work that went into creating this botanical garden is over the top impressive. The upkeep and maintenance, they must have a very experienced team working here. The pics you see online (or in this post even) just can’t capture how inspiring this place truly is until you see it for yourself with your own eyes. I didn’t expect to see many edibles so my expectations were low.
That doesn’t stop me from looking for those diamonds. As we were about halfway around I saw an aged dingy little sign simply saying Orchard. Yes, my pace quickened a little. Then I found them – Figs (Old Figs, Really Old Figs), Mulberries, Citrus, Bananas, Cattley Guavas, Loquats. Of course most everything is still dormant (with exception to the Loquats and Oranges) but still extremely impressive to see the age of these and how healthy they were. We’re definitely going back many times this year to check them out in their full glory. I hope you enjoy the pics and make plans to go see with your own eyes.
